May is almost here and with the awesome weather also comes plenty of great things to go in Central Texas!
Here is a list of cool things to do in the Austin area during May.
The many Latino music genres are showcased during performances on the Plaza at Austin City Hall each Friday at noon. Other special events throughout the month are presented as well.

Pecan Street Spring Arts Festival
East Sixth Street
A free, family event, the Pecan Street Festival is the oldest and largest art festival in Central Texas. Musicians, food vendors, artists and crafts people turn Sixth Street – historically called Pecan Street – into a lively street fair where there is something for people of all ages.

Hot Luck Festival
The Hot Luck: Live Food & Music festival returns to honor the soul, sweat and DIY diversity of the food and music world. The festival is an eat-with-your-fingers picnic and party experience that highlights open-pit feats of culinary know how, and music in your ears that is as thoughtfully created as the food on your plate. Come hungry, thirsty, and bring your dancin boots.
Lady Bird Lake, Downtown Austin
The Life Time triathlon attracts all levels of athletes from top ranked professionals to first-time triathletes. The event includes the USA Paratriathlon National Championship, sprint and international distances, First Tri distance and sprint and international distance relays.

Blues on the Green
Pack a blanket and the family and make your way to Zilker Park for this summertime tradition. Held monthly from May to August, Austin’s largest free concert series will welcome performances by top local bands.
The Drop-In Summer Concert Series
In 2021, ACL Radio & The Long Center teamed up to bring you a free weekly concert series on the Long Center lawn all summer long. The lineup featured a diverse lineup of Austin’s favorite and emerging artists in the heart of downtown. 2022 details to be announced.
Circuit of The Americas
One day, traveling festival makes its stop in Austin each spring. The festival showcases some of the most sought-after talent in hip-hop music. 2022 details to be announced.
Paramount Summer Classic Film Series
The Paramount Theatre
Flashing marquee lights. Buttery popcorn. Colossal screen. It’s that movie palace atmosphere, an air-conditioned oasis. THIS is how movies were meant to be seen. The 46th Annual Paramount Summer Classic Film Series presented by CapMetro returns in May. New films will be announced each month.
The annual festival and competition celebrating all things melted cheese returned in 2021 with a new format! Past champions and special guests competed in a special Champions League, and attendees had the opportunity to sample award-winning recipes from local chefs and restaurants. 2022 details to be announced.
The Rookie Tri
Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park
For true rookie triathletes and veterans alike. The Rookie Triathlon course is a 300 meter swim, 11.2 mile bike and 2 mile run. And don’t miss the finish line party complete with food and drink (including beer!) needed to re-fuel.
Weird Homes Tour
This wacky annual event showcases what “Keep Austin Weird” is all about. Tour a selection of the most creative homes around town and meet the homeowners who keep our wacky culture thriving.
