    In early September, I started the Austin Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy. My hopes were to learn a bit more about the folks that look after us every day and perhaps a bit more about my father; who spent his career in law enforcement. With only four classes left, I can honestly say we are so very lucky to live in Central Texas where we have such an amazing group of first responders.  Because the holiday season tends to bring an uptick in package theft and home burglaries, I want to offer a few tips shared by professionals through our weekly classes at APD.     Texans Competing in Sochi

            Looking for Texas athletes in this year’s winter olympics? You might be surprised just how well represented we are in Sochi! If there’s one thing Texans know, it’s speed skating. Of course I’m kidding but whether tuning into the speed skating long or short track events,  you’ll find a Texan!     Think Austin’s trendiness is waning? Get over it! Austin welcomes yet another move from California this time in the form of ESPN’s Summer X-Games. With the first event scheduled for May 15-18 in 2014, and another three years to follow, the alternative sports festival is primed to showcase the best of Austin to millions around the country.
