Things To Do in Austin During August 2022

August 2022 is here and although it may be one the hottest months of the year, the reality is that there’s always plenty of fun things to do in Austin during the month of August.

Every Wednesday

Wine Wednesday at Wanderlust Downtown

Every Wednesday, Wanderlust’s Downtown location offers half-ooff all their wines starting at noon until 11 p.m. They also have live music that starts at 5:30 p.m.

Every Thursday

Thirsty Thursday at Wanderlust East

Every Thursday, Wanderlust’s Eastside location offers half-off all of their wines starting at 3 p.m. They also have karaoke that starts at 7 p.m.

Every Friday

Float Fridays at The Austin Motel

Every Friday this Summer, the Austin Motel is dipping, sipping, and watching the best Summer Camp flicks there are! Pool access kicks off at 5 p.m. so come and enjoy a dip, and a drink. Screenings start at dusk, around 8:30 p.m.

Every Saturday

Happy Hour at Aviary 

Every Saturday from 4-5:30 p.m. Aviary Wine & Kitchen offers half-off all bottles of wine, $10 wagyu smashburgers, half-off Aviary cheese & charcuterie, and half-off glasses of wine. Find them at 2110 South Lamar Blvd.

August 5th

Friday Flicks at Waterloo Greenway

Head to Waterloo Park for a free showing of Selena. There will also be family-friendly activities, a photo booth, live music, contests, popcorn, candy, and drinks! Doors are at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at sunset.

August 6th

Screen on the Green at Fareground

Check out Fareground on the first Saturday of the month for “Screen on the Green”. Bring your own blanket, and they’ll bring the summer fun with an assortment of concession specials from $4 happy hour drinks to popcorn and cotton candy! Showtime is at 8:30 p.m. but pop on by any time after 6:00 p.m. to reserve your spot on the green and enjoy dinner from any of their vendors before the movie begins. This month’s showing will be Jumanji (1995).

August 7th

Yoga in the Park

Meanwhile Brewing is excited to offer a free outdoor yoga class alongside local yoga teacher, Hannah Charles! Join them for a one-hour full body, feel good flow appropriate for all levels. This class will be lead at a steady pace that allows you to fully connect breath with movement so you can feel the benefits of each pose by being present in your body.

August 8th

ATX Short Film Showcase

The ATX Short Film Showcase is Austin’s monthly film festival. Every month, they curate 6-7 local short films, followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers. Whether you’re interested in learning about the filmmaking process, looking to network with fellow Texas filmmakers, or just want a fun night of entertainment, come check them out!

August 9th

Sloppy Seconds: An Improv Duo Showcase

The best things in life come in pairs: Hostess Cupcakes, socks, and improvisers. Sloppy Seconds is an improv comedy showcase at Fallout Theater featuring the best duo teams ATX has to offer. Three hilarious duo teams will perform, inspiring a final set by your hosts Brianna Hudock and Donovan Powers of Sloppy Seconds!

August 10th

Paint & Sip at COTA 

Take an evening to unwind and wine down at COTA’s Paint a& Sip night with their friends at The Art Garage! Enjoy a night of fine arts and fine wine andbring home a custom souvenir from one of Austin’s hottest new exhibits. Painting supplies and smocks will be provided but don’t forget to dress for mess. Your experience includes Exhibit Entry, a Souvenir Glass, and a Painting Lesson with The Art Garage of Austin

August 11th

Full Moon Swim

The Austin Motel is bringing back the lunar love with their Full Moon Swim series. Sip on a Moontower Spritz from the pool bar and relax under the moonlight in their legendary pool.

August 12th

Austin Fall Home & Garden Show

The Austin Fall Home & Garden Show will return to the capitol city August 12 – 14, 2022, at the Austin Convention Center. Presented by Marketplace Events, The Austin Home & Garden Show is a dynamic showcase of the nation’s best home and garden products and services. Special guests for this fall’s show are real estate mavens, design visionaries, business owners, HGTV Unsellable Houses stars Leslie Davis and Lyndsay Lamb.

August 13th

Fresco and Flow at Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel the Exhibition

Shake off the workday stress and join COTA for an early-morning class with Sonali Krish of Black Swan Yoga! Breathe and stretch your way through dynamic and powerful poses in the glow of Michelangelo’s inspiring frescoes and enjoy a refreshing sound bathvbefore you take a tour of the art. Fitness in the Park

Fitness in the Park takes place every other Saturday. The series aims to encourage community activity through engaging classes and different fitness styles. Free classes are led by certified instructors and accommodate all levels of fitness and abilities. Fitness classes begin at 10 a.m.

August 14th

The Magnolia Kids at Central Machine Works

The Magnolia Kids are four musicians based in Austin, Texas inspired to blend their roots in classical, jazz, soul, and folk music to push the limits of genre and style. Catch them at Central Machine Works from 6-8 p.m.

August 15th

Grounded Fitness 

On Tuesday evenings, head to Fareground for Swift Fit Event’s Grounded Fitness Series. Enjoy a free high-intensity workout focusing on strength, agility, and fun! All levels welcome.

August 16th

Elliott Smith Tribute Night at Volstead Lounge

Join Volstead Lounge as they celebrate the life and music of Elliott Smith, benefiting The SIMS Foundation. Doors are at 7:30 with a $10 cover at the door.

August 17th

Side Show at Oil Can Harry’s 

Prepare yourself for the weird, the wild, the wonderful – Side Show at Oil Can Harry’s! Join your hostess Evah Destruction (from Dragula season 3), Gothess Jasmine, Noodles and special guests every other Wednesday starting at 9 p.m.

August 18th

Steak and Bourbon Long Table Dinner

In partnership with Treaty Oak Distilling, Hotel Granduca’s signature restaurant, Visconti Ristorante and Bar, will present a truly special, multi-course long table dining experience with thoughtfully curated bourbon pairings served with each course that will welcome diners in an embrace of bold elegance. Tickets are $95 per person and include the full multi-course meal plus live music and a complimentary Treaty Oak Crafted Cocktail. The 2nd Annual Shuckfest

Join Austin Oyster Co. and friends as they host the 2nd annual Shuckfest at Hotel Vegas  from 6-11 p.m, This year they’re going big featuring over 4k oysters from 20+ different farms across Maine, Massachusetts, and Prince Edward Island, while their friends sling some of the best dishes from around Texas. Enjoy great food from Las Brasas, Reese Bros BBQ, and Bummer Burrito and cold libations from Still Austin.

August 20th

Deep In the Heart of Pride Parade Watch Party

On Saturday, August 20th, The Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel will be hosting a Pride Parade Watch Party benefiting Out Youth. The “Deep in the Heart of Pride” event will be a great opportunity to enjoy the parade from a prime location (the only terrace overlooking the parade route) while supporting an important local organization. Our Youth provides valuable services to LGBTQIA+ youth in Austin, and 100% of the profits from our raffle will go towards supporting their work.

Pride Day at Blue Owl

Keep the Pride Festival going at Blue Owl. They’re offering $3 off a Classic Tasting to anyone that attended the fest that day. Blue Owl will also be donating 20% of sales on Friday and Saturday from any Pride merch, including shirts, magnets, and purple beer slushees towards Equality Texas.

Hello! AustinTX is hosting create and sip events here locally to create community through shared experience. This is a fun and energetic paint your pet and sip event. Come as a lone adventure or bring a group. They welcome everyone to come drink creatively with them!

August 23rd

Country Night at Hotel Vegas

Hotel Vegas is having their very own Country Night with Andy Aylward, Ryan Sambol, and Lefty Parker. Its $5 to get in and doors are at 8:30 p.m.

August 24th

Laugh Track: A Comedy Cardio Competition

Laugh Track is the world’s premier comedy/workout extravaganza! Comedians will be performing their sets while running on a treadmill at increasing speeds – and only one comic goes home with the gold medal. Cheer on your champions as they crack jokes and break sweats!

August 26th

Dog Days of Summer Yappy Hour

Swing by Blue Owl for their Dog Days of Summer Yappy Hour from 5-7 p.m. for some tail-waggin’ fun! Have your pup’s picture taken at their Doggie Vacation photo booth with each pup pic including entry into their raffle to win a dog-gone good prize! There will be discounted Blue Owl dog merch all day, along with plenty of sours to sip on!

August 27th

Flatwater Unbreakable Night (F.U.N.)

Join Flatwater Foundation’s growing community of supporters for a night of music, dancing, and a live auction at the Historic Scoot Inn, with 100% of proceeds benefitting the Foundation’s mission to provide mental health support to those affected by a cancer diagnosis. In addition to 500+ ticket sales, F.U.N. hopes to accomplish their fundraising goal of $50,000 through a raffle and live auction.

Cars and Coffee Austin

One of Texas’s biggest car meetups is back! Cars & Coffee Austin presented by Drive Coffee is fun for the whole family with an eclectic showing of Texas’ finest automobiles. Classics, racecars, exotics, hot rods, muscle cars, tuners, off-roaders, JDM, alternative energy—you name it, they’re here. Cars and Coffee is a free event for spectators on select Sundays this summer at Circuit of The Americas.

August 29th

Monster Movie Monday

Join Black Star Co. Op for their very first Monster Movie Monday, and expect some gnarly burger specials coming from the kitchen, along with some house-made Black Star popcorn specials. Get ready to get spooky!

August 30th

2022 Funniest Person in Austin Competition 

Join Cap City Comedy Club for the Preliminary Round of the 2022 Funniest Person In Austin Competition! Preliminary Round winners are determined by audience vote, so come on out and help them crown this year’s champ.

August 31st

Austin FC Watch Party 

Join Austin Eastciders for their latest Austin FC Watch Party! Their Barton Springs location will be serving $4 Green cider pints and green frozen drinks during the game.
