Summer is here and if you’re like most people in the Central Texas area you’ve been thinking about things to do during the summer months especially if you have kids that are out of school. 

The good news about living in Austin, or the surrounding area, during the summer months is that there always are a wide variety of things that you can do to stay active, and have fun, even if the weather reaches the triple digits.

In this article I’ll break down some of the fun things to do in Central Texas that you should consider adding to your schedule for this summer. 

Free Summer Activities

One of the many great things about living in Central Texas during summer months is that they are always a ton of free things that you can do. The following is a list of free things to do in Central Texas that you should consider adding to your schedule for this summer:

Go Swimming – From Barton Springs Pool in Austin to Jacob’s well, there are a wide variety of spots that you can choose from to cool off in Central Texas during the summer months. If you plan on going swimming make sure that you leave early enough in the morning and bring plenty of water and sunscreen with you because swimming spots tend to fill up pretty quickly during the summer especially since there’s going to be a ton of other people out there who have the same idea that you do.

Float The River In San Marcos – If you’re adventurous, another fun thing to do during summer in Central Texas to float the river in San Marcos. this is something that anyone who lives in Central Texas should do at least once in their life because, it’s a great way to hang out with other people in a relaxing environment while being able to take in the beauty of the area at the same time. 

Free Outdoor Events – From outdoor movies, to summer concerts, there are always a wide variety of outdoor events to choose from in Central Texas, especially if you live in the Austin area. If you plan on attending a free event, make sure that you get there early because, free movies and outdoor concerts always fill up quickly.

Concerts

Summer in Central Texas is also an excellent time of year to be in the area because there’s tons of great concerts coming to town. In 2019 for example, there’s a lot of awesome concerts that are coming up very soon including Willie Nelson’s annual Fourth of July Bash, 21 Pilots, Sublime with Rome and the annual Austin City Limits music festival.

Outdoor Events With Food

Last of all, but most important, if you’re still scratching your head wondering what are some of the cool things that you should be doing in Central Texas during the summer months, another great thing about living in this area is that there always are a wide variety of outdoor events with delicious food and drinks.

For example: there’s the SFC Farmers market (June 22nd), Hot Sauce Festival (Aug 25th) and the Texas Craft Brewers Festival (Sept 28th).
